The acorn barnacle Elminius modestus

This barnacle is an alien invader, thought to have arrived in Britain during the 1940s.  It occurs naturally in Australasia and probably came here with boats from Australia or New Zealand.  It can be identified from British barnacles by having only four shell plates.
