Red-throated diver

Despite being the smallest of the UK’s diving birds, the red-throated diver can stay under water for a minute and a half after jumping up out of the water to dive. Grey-brown, with a colourful red throat during the summer. The red-throated diver eats mainly small fish which it will chase underwater, but may also take shellfish and crabs.
